Thank you for taking a moment to visit my scrapbook page dedicated to the GREATEST Heavy Metal band in the world......

Sabbath has recently toured again, but this time they're calling themselves Heaven and Hell. Original Sab members Ozzy Osbourne (vocals) and Bill Ward (drums) are not with them on this tour. Instead we have the refreshing, wonderful treat of Ronnie James Dio on vocals and Vinny Appice on drums!! Click the promo above to go directly to the H+H website to see if they're coming to your city. They are scheduled to play across Canada as the first part of their tour.

The crowd was an all-ages crowd....younger metalheads to middle-aged metalheads like myself, aged
46.
The stage was an old castle made of bricks, and it gave the show a cool gothic feel. It was perfect for a Sabbath show. Each side had brick pillars and iron gates that "hid" their amplifiers. The "windows" on the castle were projection screens that showed different still pics and videos. A lot of scenes were shows of characters from the Live Evil album. Other lighting effects truly made this show THE BEST Sabbath
show I've been to (this was my 4th time seeing Sabbath, in its various incarnations). This was the first time seeing Dio live, and, sorry die-hard Ozzy fans, he blows away Ozzy for stage presence.
I smuggled in a camera and took LOTS of video clips and some stills.
Warning: security is doing FULL PAT DOWNS, forbidding the usual camera equipment, chains, and studded jewellery.
TIP: If you're bringing a camera, hide it in your groin; they'll never pat you down there ;-)

I've had the pleasure of seeing Black Sabbath in concert 4 times in my 30+ years as a fan. I have met and shook the hands of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Tony Martin, and Geoffrey Nichols. I also have an autographed picture of Bill Ward. Lemmy and Nikki Dee from MOTORHEAD were kind enough to give me their autographs also. I also got to meet ZAKK WYLDE, and you know how he rocks!!!! It was friggin awesome man!

1995 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on the Forbidden Tour
From the Calgary Herald, promiting the July 26, 1995 Sabbath / Motorhead show

From the Calgary Herald, a preview of the upcoming show and album review

From the Calgary Herald, an unfavorable review (see below for my Letter to the Editor regarding this review)

My 'Letter to the Editor' regarding the unfavorable Sabbath concert review
Original Letter
Gentlemen:
Regarding
the concert review "Black Sabbath mired in Molasses" from July 27 in
the Herald it seems that James Muretich is more of a Motorhead fan that a Sab
fan. The two bands styles are entirely different. I personally went to see Black
Sabbath, as probably did most people there. While Mr. Muretich comments were
uncomplimentary to the non-original members of Black Sabbath, he at least had
the decency to acknowledge that original member/guitarist Tony Iommi still
played with "power and precision". Judging from comments from other
members or the audience, most of them were there to see Tony Iommi, regardless
of the current lineup of Black Sabbath. As for people leaving the concert early,
that happens with all shows, so people can avoid the traffic hassles. He also
didn't like the "torturously dated set" that they played. When a band
has been around for a long time like Black Sabbath, people expect to hear all
those old classics. Would you like to go to a Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd
concert and only hear the songs from their recent albums? Of course not! As for
singer Tony Martin "trying to get the audience to sing along". the
audience was singing long before he tried to "get them to",
acknowledging recognition of some Sabbath classics. He also mentioned that the
group "seemed tired in concert". Is he expecting to see the band
running around like younger heavy metal bands? Some bands just Play great music,
and dont leap around. Did anyone see David Gilmour of Pink Floyd (of which
the Herald carried No concert review, but did for the Rolling Stones)
running around like a kid. These guys are in their late 40's/early 50's! I
suggest Mr. Muretich investigate the style of each bands stage shows before he
comments on their presentation.

Tony Iommi (Guitar) Tony signed my ticket stub for the show. I now have this proudly displayed on my wall for all to see and envy.

|
Bill Ward (Drums) I sent a snail mail to Bills management company, and promptly forgot about it. TWO years later I received a letter apologizing for the delay, and included in it was the 8x10 glossy, autographed picture of Bill !! While the writing is a bit hard to read, it says: Hi Darryl, Rock and Shine. Bill Ward, Drums and Songs. He also has drawn a picture of a drumkit. Check out Bills website and try your luck for an autograph.

Ozzy Osbourne (Vocals) 1982 Ozzy was touring for his new album 'Blizzard of Oz'. The tour landed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and Ozzy was doing an interview at the local radio station, 92 CITI FM. A small crowd gathered outside hoping to see him. As he left the building with his bodyguard, the crowd froze in awe. I called out "Hey Ozzy, how about an autograph?". His exact words were "Sure man, sure". He came over, shook my hand, signed my 'Blizzard' record album, and met with the other fans. It was great! I'll never forget that moment.

Geoff Nicholls (Keyboards) After the show in 1995 Geoff was walking around the parking lot outside the arena Sabbath played at. While I could not get into the fenced complex, I shouted out to him to come on over, which he did. He was very friendly. |

Tony Martin (Vocals) During the Dehuminizer tour in 1995 Tony was also walking around the parking lot outside the arena. I shouted out to him to come on over, which he did. He was very friendly.

Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead Bassist) Lemmy was haning around outside the parking lot after the show drinking a beer. A few of us asked for an autograph and he oblidged. A few moments later a large 4 wheel drive truck pulled up, he got in, and away it went.

|
Nikki Dee (Motorhead Drums) Nikki came out into the parking lot after the show and signed a few autographs also.

Zakk Wylde (guitar for Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne) I got the opportunity to meet Zakk when BLS played here on April 12, 2007. He did a meet and greet at Guitarworks, and a few lucky people won the opportunity for this event. |

Assorted Sabbath pictures I've collected
This is a photograph of a large poster that I've had since the mid 1970's. It has been on my wall ever since I got it from some kind fellow who worked at Kelly's Records on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I was admiring the poster when he just went up to it, took it off the wall, and gave it to me. I've loved it ever since.

This black and white photo is of the same scene pictured above, but slightly different. It comes from the Technical Ecstasy music book.

I think this photo of Tony Iommi and Ozzy came from an old Creem magazine. I think Tony looks better with his moustache.

This photo of Ozzys family comes from the March 4, 1999 issued of Rolling Stone magazine. The kids sure are spitting images of dad.

I recommend this book if you're looking for a detailed biography of The Ozzy Osbourne Band. There's lots of interesting insider information that the average fan (myself included) wouldn't know and would like. The second half of the book is a detailed cross-reference of all the musicians mentioned in the book and all the recordings they were involved in. Click here to go to the publishers website.
